St. Paul's - A great place for your next concert!

The 1912  Victorian Gothic building is made of red brick, with cast stone arches and window frames. Its beautiful stained glass windows are located on all four sides of the church, as well as the the exterior wall of the chapel.  In 1998, the City of Oakland declared St. Paul’s a historic landmark following the completion of a major seismic retrofit.  The acoustics in this wonderful space are live and clear, ideal for choral and chamber performance, and very friendly to large ensembles.

Seating

The nave seats approximately 300, all with an unobstructed view of the chancel.  Additional seating for 48 is available in the Chapel of the Pacific, the adjoining sacred space on the south side of the nave.

Location

St. Paul’s is located across Grand Avenue from Lake Merritt and Lakeside Park.  Street and paid lot parking is available within a few blocks of the church.  The church is one-half mile from the 19th Street BART station, and approximately one mile from the Oakland Ave. /Harrison Street off-ramp of I-580.

Organ and Piano

The Austin organ, designed in the English Cathedral tradition by William Jameson, was installed in 1934.  The nave also contains a well maintained parlor grand piano.

Amenities

The nave and parish office building are accessible to individuals with physical challenges.  Two small restrooms are available within the church building proper;  accessible restrooms are located in the parish office building.  Limited storage space is available within the church building for instruments between rehearsal and performance.  Additional facilities available for rental include meeting rooms, a large parish hall with commercial kitchen, and the courtyard between the church building and parish offices.
