Ministries

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services,  but the same Lord;
and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who  inspires them all in everyone.
To each is  given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.  - 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Feeding the Hungry

Food Pantry
The Pantry of Hope
distributes groceries to our neighbors twice a month after the last Sunday service.  At Christmas and Thanksgiving, we travel throughout Oakland to bring special holiday meals to seniors who have requested them.

Caring for Vulnerable Children and their Families

Giving Tree
At Christmas we “adopt” five families chosen for us by the Children’s Hospital/ UCSF Benioff Center for the Vulnerable Child.  The center provides us with a list of gifts these at-risk children and their families want and need.  Gift tags for them are put on a “Giving Tree” so that parishioners can select, purchase, and wrap the presents, our gifts of love.

School Supplies
During the summer, we adopt several local schools and as a church, we donate funds to purchase schools supplies for elementary students in need as part of our Back to School Drive. Each year, we have provided supplies to over 100 children whose families cannot afford these critical supplies.

Standing for Justice

LGBTQI+
We ascribe to loving inclusion: as an Oasis Congregation and members of IntegrityUSA, we are a safe space for all people.

Union of Black Episcopalians
Several of our members are part of Diocesan and nation church organizations such as the Afro Anglican Commission and Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE) which has been working for over 200 years to eliminate racism in the Episcopal Church and bring more inclusion and equity in leadership as part of being Beloved Community.

Standing Against Violence

Night Walks
We work towards peace in our streets by participating in Night Walks sponsored by Faith in Action East Bay, in which a group walks through the streets of an impacted Oakland neighborhood to let them know we are not alone.

Stand Ins
We join the members of True Vine Church for Stand Ins, where we stand near where someone has been killed and loudly, with bull horns & chants, call on people to put the guns down, and proclaim that this person was important and their death is not acceptable.

Guns to Gardens
We are the principal supporters of Guns to Gardens, an initiative that helps to beat swords into plowshares by collecting guns at one-time events in exchange for gift certificates and a  hand-forged garden tool fashioned from the weapons retrieved at the previous year’s buyback.

Helping to Create Pathways Out of Poverty

Episcopal Impact Fund
We support the Episcopal Impact Fund, which funds community-based poverty relief efforts, focusing on housing security for families as a cornerstone in breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty in the Bay Area.
